The office of deacon as set forth in Scripture in one of sympathy, witness, and service after the example of Jesus Christ.  Persons of spiritual character, honest repute, of exemplary lives, brotherly and sisterly love, warm sympathies, and sound judgment should be chosen for this office.  (G-6.0401 Book of Order)

Eleven people currently serve as deacons for a three year term. Four new terms start each year to provide for overlap from one year to the next.  In very tangible ways, deacons become the hands and feet of Christ as they reach out to people in the community.
