SCOUTING
The church sponsors many scouting programs.

Tiger Cub Den Meeting occurs every other Tuesday at 5:30 p.m.

Cub Scout Pack 40 meets the 2nd Thursday of each month at 5:30 p.m.

Boy Scout Troop 3 meets on Monday nights from 7:00-8:00 p.m. in the Scout Room (Room 5 in the basement).  Outings are scheduled for a year at a time to facilitate participation by as many Scouts and leaders as possible.  A monthly newsletter is published to keep everyone updated on the plans and the past adventures.  The tents and other gear needed for cooking are provided by the troop.  Scouts provide their personal items for camping such as sleeping bags, eating utensils, uniforms, etc.  Just show up for any meeting to learn more about the troop.

Troop 3 has an active outdoor camping orientation with outings each month of the year. High adventure is an important part of the program for older Scouts and the troop rotates between Sea Base in the Florida Keys, Philmont in northeastern New Mexico, and Canoe Base in Minnesota. Troop members also participate in the National Jamboree which occurs once every four years. Summer camp is an important part of the camping experience and the troop has rotated through camps in various councils.

First chartered in 1915, the troop has a proud tradition of Eagle Scouts with 92 Eagles since 1927 (48 since 1991). The Scouts know that everyone in our troop can become Eagle. The troop program strongly supports Scouts on their trail to Eagle Scout so they can soar to new adventure through Scouting. The meetings and camping are fun as the Scouts run the program and determine what is going to be done each year.

Troop members are encouraged to join the Order of the Arrow honor camping program, and participate in the Delaware Indian traditions and ceremonies. The Washita Lodge is recognized as one of the outstanding OA Lodges and members are typically participating in higher levels of the program such as Section and National. Every other year a group attends the NOAC national conference.

Parents are encouraged to particpate as leaders in the program, as this is an all volunteer program. The church provides strong support for the program with use of the church van, a room for Scout meetings with a closet to store the equipment, and budgetary support each year for the troop. The youth directors have supported the God and Country program for Scouts that are interested. Troop membership is open to the community and many of the Scouts are not members of the church.

The church has sponsored Cub packs, Explorer Posts, and Girl Scout troops as interest and leadership warrant. The Scouting is a good way for all to have fun and grow, both youth and adult. Come and be a part of the adventure and fun at Troop 3. No past involvement is Scouting is needed for either youth or adults. There is a strong training program and superb resources available.
