The scripture selections used in our worship services usually follow the widely agreed Revised Common Lectionary. The Lectionary is an ecumenical three-year cycle of readings from the Bible. For each Sunday they include an Old Testament lesson, a Psalm, an Epistle lesson, and a Gospel lesson. We seldom use all four, but often use two, sometimes three. Use of the lectionary provides two main gifts: it gives the congregation a full range of readings in three years and it prevents the preacher from over-dependence on his/her “favorite” passages, so it is challenging and nourishing.  Below is a link to these lectionary readings.
